In advance of your first Reading Partners Connects lesson, we ask volunteers to practice some of the technology features, which include preparing your (computer) screen, presenting Google Slides, sharing your screen, and using the lesson plan and ebook.

To practice, please follow the tech check guide, below. This is the same guide volunteers reference to complete their technology check before tutoring. If you need additional practice beyond this guide, please contact a Reading Partners staff member or email volunteer@readingpartners.org to coordinate a practice session.

Please open the links below:

  1. Click here to open a sample Reading Partners lesson on Google Slides
  2. Click here to open a sample Reading Partners lesson plan
  3. Click here to open a sample Reading Partners student read-aloud book

With these materials open, please practice the following:

1. Click and drag the Lesson Plan into a separate window, keeping the Google Slides presentation and student read-aloud book tabs where they are. Resize the two windows so they are side-by-side on your screen.

2. Now, practice presenting the Google Slides. Click the dropdown arrow next to “slideshow” and click “presenter view.” In the box that appears, you will be able to see the script as speaker notes.

3. In a Reading Partners Connects session, you will share your screen. Please see the video below on how to share your screen. As you click through the slides, your students will be able to see the slides change as well.

4. Please spend a few minutes clicking through the slides and practicing using the script.

5. Click into the e-book. Please spend a few minutes clicking through the pages in the e-book.
