Guidelines for selecting a read aloud book
Engaging – Is the story interesting? Will my child enjoy it? If you enjoyed it, chances are your child will.
Relevant – Will your child be able to relate to the story? Does the story teach an important life lesson?
Language – Does the book contain beautiful, playful or interesting language? Will your child be able to learn new vocabulary from it?
Illustrations – Are there colorful, vibrant illustrations that add to the story? Will the illustrations help your child visualize the story?
Content – Will your child learn about new ideas, people or places? Is the topic of the text age appropriate?
